Anecdotal evidence seems to suggest pregnant women are being targeted for redundancy during the economic downturn. Lawyers have reported a sharp increase in the number of women calling their help-lines, because their jobs have been terminated during maternity leave and pregnancy. The Alliance Against Pregnancy Discrimination in the Workplace warned that it appeared employers are using the recession as an excuse to break the law on discrimination.

I was not made redundant whilst pregnant, they waited until I returned to work part time and then made me redundant, even though I was the longest serving team member and accomplished more in my 3 days than others in 5! I think they did not like my lack of flexibility and the fact that I had to look after my baby if she was sick etc. I do know that the same company did pick on pregnant women to make redundant too. I think pregnant women and new mothers are an easy target but it makes it almost impossible to find a similar part time job after.
