Parent facing buggies claimed to benefit development
|
Monday 24th November 2008 News Index A study claims that the type of buggy or pram your baby travels in can affect their development.
The study carried out at Dundee University found that there could be a link between the child's brain development and the way the child sits in the buggy. Parent facing buggies are claimed to increase the interaction between parent and child, including talking and laughing, known to be key factors in brain development.
The results of the study showed that parents with children in parent facing buggies were twice as likely to talk to their child. Whilst the study is small scale, it has raised questions about how we interact with our children and the issue that currently, parent facing buggies are much more expensive than forward facing ones.

Your Comments | | Our pram has a choice of either way although I have him facing me, however, living in London, we needed an umbrella fold buggy for buses and tube etc and I am yet to find one that faces the parent so he faces outwards most of the time but not through choice, I'd prefer him facing me. | elumanate
08/12/2008 | | surely it depends on how long the child is in the buggy everyday and how the parent interacts with the child the rest of the time. I found my baby enjoys being able to see new things on our trips out in the buggy - she will point out other children or dogs walking towards us and I tell her what they are.. I think she has enough of me babbling on to her whilst we are at home, without being forced to look at me on our walks too !! | xxmum21xx
