Acupuncture during IVF ineffective claims study
|
Monday 17th November 2008 News Index A study into the effectiveness of acupuncture on pregnancy rates has found that placebo acupuncture was actually more effective than the real thing. The study of 370 women, conducted at the University of Hong Kong measured a 55% pregnancy rate in the group that received the placebo treatment compared to a 43% rate in the group that received the actual acupuncture.
The results have ignited a debate about the use of acupuncture in pregnancy and raised the possibility that actual acupuncture could reduce the pregnancy rate and not increase it as often claimed.
