A little tipple could be OK in Pregnancy

Research by University College London has found that the consumption of a little alcohol in pregnancy could possibly be linked to a lower incidence of hyperactivity and behavioural problems in the children. Whilst the dangers of heavy drinking in pregnancy are well known, this new research indicates there were no increased risks to children born to mothers who drank lightly in pregnancy.

The study considered light drinking to be 1 to 2 units per week and even after allowing for social and economic differences found that up there were up to 40% less conduct issues in children from light drinking mothers. It could be that light drinking mothers are more relaxed than abstainers but even if it is the case, this research contradicts current advice to abstain in the UK.
