Doubts raised over infertility treatment

A 2 year study conducted by researchers at the University of Aberdeen has suggested that there is little or no benefit seen in the success of fertility treatments over regular intercourse.

The study worked with 580 women who had no explainable reason for infertility split the test into three groups with one group of the women receiving treatments to correct ovulatory dysfunction, one group received intrauterine insemination and the third were asked to try naturally.

The results showed very little difference between the groups success rates and concluded that there was not enough difference to prove the current treatments in the UK actually provide any benefit. With one in seven couples in the UK infertile, the study suggest medical professionals review the treatments currently used.
