Morning sickness

On this page we share the experiences and advice of other mums who have struggled with the challenges of morning sickness.

If you would like to share your own experiences please send your story to: contributions@forparentsbyparents.co.uk

I have severe morning sickness and had to be addmitted to Hospital for dehydration, the treatment.. fluids and vitamines helped but as I can't drink any fluids I feel i am gonna end up in Hospital again! most women in my family suffer from this sickness. But most had their babies back in africa where the weather was better and air much fresher. I am not craving anything but wish I could drink anything! :( all this sickness but soon we will all feel better and happier in God's will. bless you all and I wish you happy new year and happy and helath babies.

Something I found that really helped, and it does sound rather odd, but sniffing and/or eating apples. Apples smelt absolutely divine when everything else around me smelt foul. I kept an apple by the bed so I could sniff it when I felt sick before I went to sleep. Give it a try!

I am suffering Nausua, but the sea Bands are helping. I find savoury snacks curb it and Tescos Finest Ginger cookies seem to do the job too although nothing gets rid of it completly.

I have lots of nausea but no vomitting. Plenty of water and eating savoury snacks help.

I have just found out I am 7wks pregnant. I have been trying for a baby for 10 yrs did have a lot of treatmeat before but know can't belive it happened. My morning sickness is ok but when I brush my teeth thats when it kicks of, so know I take my time brushing & feel much better.

My husband was away on a six month tour (which I think he planned as soon as I peed on that stick and got a positive result!!), so I had to look after myself and my 15 month old boy. The morning sickness was horrible second time around which really confused me as I suffered nothing with my first. During my sickness I drank a lot of milk which I heard helped line the stomach and for me it did seem to work. Straight after the sickness subsided I suffered from Sciatica or trapped nerve in my leg which was actually worse than the sickness. Oh the joy of pregnancy. Thankfully you never remember the actual aches and pains once the little one arrives. - Donna

I suffered from morning evening and night sickness this is my first child. I am 19 years old my sickness has calmed done now it lasted the first 3 months>/p>

"I am 9 weeks and I have been experiencing nausea since 6 weeks. I feel sick all day from the moment I get up until I go to bed. Sea bands from Boots help a bit and taking small bites of a cinnamon & raisin bagel during the afternoon seems to keep the sickness at bay during the afternoon at work".

"I was really really sick the second time round to the extent that I couldn't even look at my kitchen without running to the toilet. It's such a hard time when nobody knows you are expecting yet you feel so rotten. Time unfortunately was the main help although I can also recommend the pressure wrist bands that I bought from Boots which are to aid travel sickness...they certainly provided some relief."

"I felt very sickly during this pregnancy and trying to look after a 12 month old whilst feeling unwell was really difficult. I ate little and often dry toast crackers cereal bars and ginger biscuits first thing in the morning. Then when I started feeling somewhat more human I had something like a Jacket Potato with a side salad."

"I was sick every day all day and felt like I couldn't share my experiences in case anything happened to the baby. I tried everything to get rid of the symptoms of morning sickness...nothing worked!"

"Nausea - it was present non stop for several weeks and I was absolutely exhausted from not being able to eat properly and having 3 other children to look after already! The support from my partner & family really helped!"

"The nausea coupled with having to look after a little one who was only just 18 months. The practical help and support from friends, family and my partner really helped... and remembering that the phase would pass."

"The nausea made the first trimester my worst - eating small amounts often did seem to help - I felt that I was much worse if I let myself get hungry!"

"I had lots of nausea and found that sipping Ginger Cordial really helped."
