Home Education

"I thought you might like to mention Home Education. The law states that every child must receive an education suitable to their age aptitude and ability in school or "otherwise". I have been Home Educating my two children (6 and 3) since January 03."

Ceri

"If anyone is considering home Educating their children, I would like to encourage them to seriously consider taking the step. There are strong communities of HomeEd families all over the uk so there are always lots of social opportunites and support.

A lot of these families have an 'autonomous education' (Child led) philosophy. People often worry that if you allowed your children to choose their own learning they would do nothing! But that is not the case. The kids I have met are very self motivated and discover their own creativity and are able to take qualifications often earlier than their 'in-school' counterparts. By the way, you don't have to be a teacher or follow the national curriculum.

I'm not criticising anyone who sends their children to school, just pointing out that there is an alternative and that we have found Home ed to be immensely rewarding and enjoyable."

Lesley

The main HE charity is education otherwise, a UK-based membership organisation that provides support and information for families whose children are being educated outside school, and for those who wish to uphold the freedom of families to take proper responsibility for the education of their children.
