Reviews by ParentsThe best way to find out if a product, book, DVD, CD or something new and different is any good is to ask another parent. Parents are “great experts”, we are hands on, doing the job of parenting and know when something works or not. These pages are created to give you an idea of how things work and whether they will suit you, your child or family. If you think there is something you would like reviewed let us know and we will try to get hold of it. Recent ReviewsYondi![]() Marketing as a 'head hugger and travel chum', I would say that this product does both these functions really well. When I first showed my little girl Yondi, she immediately took it and hugged it. Just the ears and eye markings on the round top section are enough to make the product seem animal like and therefore loved by children. She was also fascinated with the magnetic fastening. The neck supports are held together by these two magnets which connect the two pieces under the chin to provide a chin rest. She loved the fact that she could do this herself and spent quite some time putting the two neck supports together and pulling them apart again. This product definitely stops the child's head slumping completely forwards (where their chin ends up on their chest) if they fall asleep in the car seat in its upright position. I'm not sure when they put it on though, perhaps the idea is for older children to put it on themselves if you are on a long journey and they feel sleepy. I think in reality for my 4 year old, I would turn around and see she had fallen asleep and then pull the car over and put it round her neck to make her nap more comfortable. Yondi would also be really useful on a plane journey or train where the kids have to nap in a seat. Scooby Doo and the Samurai Sword![]() In a really fun adventure, Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Inc. Crew travel to Asia where they have to solve the riddle of the ancient scroll and battle the Black Samurai and an army of robot Ninjas to save the world. They discover that honour and courage from within can defeat the ghost warriors, with the help of the Sword of Fate. My children love Scooby-Doo and this story does not disappoint. It also gives them an insight into the cultural differences in Asia, exposing them to the world of Martial Arts and ancient Samurai tradition. Great fun family viewing! Grizzly Dad![]() We love this story about why dads are great, even grumpy ones! The pictures are hilarious, especially the cat stealing the bacon on the inside cover page. The little boy gets cross with his Dad when he's poorly and grumpy and turns into a bear. The illustrations are clever because the dad's trousers start to look like bear fur and of course the children you're reading to spot this and go 'uh oh'! So Dad steps up to the mark and takes them to town, the cinema and the park and they have the best day ever. Then miraculously the bear turns back into Dad again. A great bed time read. How to Heal a Broken Wing![]() We enjoyed this story about a little boy who takes care of a pigeon that has a broken wing. There are lots of pictures, some lovely big double page spreads and some small cartoon like pictures, with very few words. This means that as the reader you have to make up a lot of commentary for the child and talk through the pictures together. I like this approach as it encourages the child to talk about the story rather than being 'spoon-fed', but sometimes it is nice to have lots of words to read so you don't have to think too hard - depends what mood you're in!! Dewdrop Babies: The Moonlit Picnic![]() The Moonlit Picnic story is one of four in the Dewdrop Babies series. These books are gorgeous - with sparkle pages, cute little flower baby characters and great adventures, I recommend them to anyone. The set would make a lovely present for someone too, I think from aged 3 upwards. They also teach the child the names of flowers and about interesting things that happen in nature.
