Temperature Charts

Temperature

Another way in which you could find out about your menstrual cycle is by keeping a note of your temperature each morning just after you wake up. Your temperature changes at different points in the cycle, dropping just before you ovulate and then rising when ovulation has taken place.

Tracking your temperature means that you can work out when you are most likely to become pregnant. This is a particularly good method to use if your cycles are really irregular.

Taking your temperature

Tracking your temperature is quite easy, although you will need to be quite organised. You should have everything to hand as the idea is that you take your temperature when you first wake up. This means that the body is at rest and gives you what is known as a basal body temperature (BBT). You will need an accurate thermometer and a piece of paper to note down the results.

1.
Pop the thermometer under your tongue for two or three minutes when you first wake up. You must do this every day to get an accurate picture.

2.
Avoid having anything to drink or eat - the idea is that your temperature is taken when your body is completely rested and you have not had the time to rush around.

3.
Make a note of the results.

4.
Look to see when your temperature is falling and then begins to rise again.

5.
This pattern indicates first of all that you are about to ovulate and when it rises that you are ovulating.
