Babies and Children - Feeding and weaning
How To Combine Milk and Solids
Message | From |
| i agree with starting solids when you think your baby is ready...mothers instinct! i started my daughter at 5 months because she was taking 8 ounces every 2/3 hours and always seemed hungry.luckily my health visitor agreed with me so we started on baby rice mixed in with fresh vegetables, introducing a different veg one at a time every few days so we knew if something disagreed with her. Shes 11 months now, the right weight and loves her food still!go with your instincts | bee1![]() Fri 6th Nov 2009 11.26pm |
| Hi Iv just started weaning my baby and hes 5 months old. I would say that every mum has the feeling when to start because she knows her baby the best.I noticed that he was interesting in food when we ate. I bought baby rice and fruit cereal, and started when he was happy and playful. He started eating like it wasnt his first time and finished the whole lot i made.So I would tell every mum to start as soon as she feels its right. You dont have to wail until the babys 6 month old.Gool luck | redstar![]() Wed 4th Nov 2009 10.45am |
| hi dolphin annie, i really do not agree with you, your health visiotor gives u a rough guide as of when to start weaning baby, if 6 months is really the case then why do all the jars have 4mnth+ on?? my baby is just over 12 weeks old and i have been giving her baby porridge in morning and baby rice in evening along with 4oz of her milk and she is much happier and content! christiana, you do what ever YOU feel is right for you and your baby, but at the age she is i would just recommend the porridge and rice that u make with their own milk, same as what i use, u will find that u have a much happier baby as i do but then again all babies are different so you can only do what you feel is best :) if she doesnt like being spoon fed or is not ready, she wont take it :) good luck x | keirasmummy![]() Sat 5th Jul 2008 4.11pm |
| try one meal food per day and try baby rice for a while first as its bland then try one thing pureed apple for a few days etc so they get used to the taste u can see if shes got an allergy to a certain food and see what she likes. try to aviod sugary sweet foods as she will get a sweet tooth take weaning slowly there is no rush to cut out milk , milk still should be there main source of nutrient | madminder![]() Fri 28th Mar 2008 9.01am |
| Hi What makes you think your lo is ready for solids. The recommendations for starting weaning are 6mths as this is when the gut is more mature and can break the food down, they are less likely to suffer from bowel problems etc if you can leave it longer. 3mths old is a typical growth spurt territory, so lo might be feeding more frequently and seems hungry, if you are bf offering more feeds etc will help. If you are ff then add an extra oz to each bottle. Before you start weaning please talk to your hv and they would be able to offer more advice. Babies need thier milk at this age and solids will full them up but they get no nutrients from them. Hth | dolphinannie![]() Thu 27th Mar 2008 9.42pm |
| first off, ask yourself, is she ready for solids? does she seem unhappy with the milk she is having? if she is , try her in the morning when you have breakfast, with baby breakfast that you have to use baby milk with then when she has had enough then give her the rest of milk to top her up. just try 1meal a day as if u bombard her with baby dinners straight away, her body may not get used to it and might upset her tummy xx | paigesmummy![]() Mon 24th Mar 2008 6.19pm |
How do you combine milk and solids? My baby is 3months old and I start giving her solids, but I don't know how to combine them. Christiana
